next big plane...

Post by Krazycolin »

So.... here I am doing some contemplating...

one of the things that always bugged me was that, even though there is perfectly good KC-135 out there... you can't actually fuel off of it nor can you fly the boom... and that makes it a drag...

So... here's my question...

should we do a KC-135 or a KC-10?

Now, it's a given that if we were to do a KC-10, we'd also do a DC-10... (albeit with the "wrong" cockpit.... 88% correct)....

Opinions?

I like the 10 cause it has a bigger refueling zone.

I am pretty sure that the 10 does drogues as well as boom. The 135, not...

Did CS do a 135? A nice one?

The KC-135 has the drogue in wing pods now, along with the boom. I have two friends that fly with the Kansas ANG...one is a pilot, and the other is a boomer...I've seen their pics of the planes with the wing pods. I think they're KC-135T's.

I think the T is glass... and no FE... which, might be easier for some things... nonetheless... the DC-10/KC-10 is a nice mix because we can cover two bases in one shot...

I'm still open about this...

KC-10 is just fine. On a side note, none of the KC-135's had an FE. The NAV station is sitting in the place where the B-707 has an FE.

this one's not been accepted yet... so the DC/KC-10 is all glass still...

On the FE/Nav... ideally, we would avoid having an extra position to deal with...

other than the boom person though...

THe KC-10 has an FE, so you're not going to get out of modelling an extra crew station by doing a KC-10. The NAV station on the KC-135 is very simple compared to an FE panel.

Note the wing pods on the 135, they're housing for the drogue.

also, I don't think the KC-10 is a glass cockpit. The following pics are current as of 2011.
